(Mr. Casper SPORTELL - Kalamazoo, MI, died late Saturday evening, November 22, 1997. Casper was born June 9, 1913 in Kalamazoo, a son of Koert and Emma (SCHREUDER) SPORTELL, and was a life long Kalamazoo area resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. In May 1979, he retired from Zurn Industries, where he had been a sheet metal worker for 38 years. He was a member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the Consistory, and was a custodian for 11 years. Casper loved to golf and bowl. He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin SPORTELL in 1960. On May 22, 1941 he was united in marriage to the former Agnes DE VRIES, who survives. Also surviving are 2 children, Curtis (Marcia) SPORTELL of Grand Haven, MI and Marcia SPORTELL of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Chris SPORTELL, Eric (Melanie) SPORTELL, Tom, Jon, and Dan SPORTELL, all of Grand Haven; a brother, Henry (Ann) SPORTEL of Englewood, CO; 3 sisters, Winnie (Ben) VALKEMA, Wilma (Marvin) LAROY, AND GRACE (Bert) TRIEMSTRA, all of Kalamazoo; a sister-in-law, Grace SPORTELL of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1:00 o'clock Wednesday at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Rd., with the Rev. Mr. Mark Van't Hof and the Rev. Mr. Steven Van Heest officiating. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Memorial Chapel 622 S. (Findagrave.com: Went home to be with her Lord on Sunday afternoon, August 8, 2004. Grace was born January 1, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Koert and Emma (Schreuder) Sportel. Grace lived all of her life in Kalamazoo, where she walked in the footsteps of her Lord and Savior, this is the legacy she left with her children and grandchildren. She was a National Honor Society student at State High School; was a charter member of the Westwood Christian Reformed Church; was an employee of The Upjohn Company for 11 years; and a Bronson Hospital Red Cross volunteer. On November 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to her best friend and husband of 57 years, Bert Triemstra, who survives. Also surviving are their children, Tom (Sally Jo) Triemstra of Kalamazoo, Patricia (B.J.) Huizenga of Bay Point, CA, Bruce (Sally Ann) Triemstra of Portage, Gayle (Philip) DeVries of Wyoming, MI; 12 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Grace Sportell; and several nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Casper, Henry and Martin; and sisters, Winnie Valkema and Wilma LaRoy. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Road, with Pastor Dale Slings and Pastor Bill Fernhout officiating. Bert graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School, served his country during WW II and had worked for Johnson-Howard Lumber Company for over 40 years. During World War II, Hank served in the US Army and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1943. On March 17, 1944, Hank was united in marriage to the former Henrietta Kroeze in Kalamazoo. With his father and brother, Hank owned and managed the family business, Sportel and Sons, growing celery, onions and bedding plants and flowers. Hank was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a former member of Comstock Christian Reformed Church and currently a member of Chapman Memorial Chapel Church of the Nazarene. Hank was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 68 years, Henrietta; grandson, Michael Allen Terpstra; four sisters, Winnie Nie, Renetta Shelton, Alberta Westrate and Sadie Sportel; and a sister-in-law, Annetta Sportel. (Sportel, Mr. Martin "Bob" Kalamazoo, MI. Bob went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday morning, December 2, 2017. He was born April 16, 1924 in Kalamazoo, son of Apko and Hattie (Schreuder) Sportel. On November 22, 1946, Bob was united in marriage to Annetta Kroeze. He was a lifelong member of Comstock Christian Reformed Church. Bob was co-owner of Sportel Greenhouses, retiring in 1979. He faithfully and lovingly cared for his wife, Annetta at their home until her passing in 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings and their spouses. Bob enjoyed visiting and helping his friends and family. He baked delicious chocolate chip cookies for his greenhouse co-workers, friends and family until May, 2016. Bob and Annetta were blessed with 3 children: Linda (Chris, deceased) Postma, Ron (Barb) Sportel, Deb (Charlie) Glas: 8 grandchildren, Christian Postma, Anne (Tim) Spoelman, Tim (Kelly) Postma, Bryan Sportel, Kevin (Jolie) Sportel, Nicole (James) Spencer, and Rachel and Laura Glas; seven great-grandchildren, Oliver, Simon, Eli and Abram Postma, Emmajean, Eddison and Anderson Spoelman and Zoe and Jackson Spencer. She was born March 8, 1925 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Karsien "Case" and Jennie (Napp) Kroeze. On November 22, 1946, Annetta was united in marriage to Martin "Bob" Sportel in Kalamazoo. She was employed in all aspects of the family business, Sportel and Sons. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Bob; their three children, Linda (Chris) Postma of St. John, IN, Ron Sportel of Kalamazoo, and Deb (Charlie) Glas of Kalamazoo; eight grandchildren, Christian (Lisa) Postma, Anne (Tim) Spoelman, Tim (Kelly) Postma, Bryan, Kevin, and Nicole Sportel, and Rachel and Laura Glas; seven great- grandchildren, Oliver, Simon, Eli, and Abram Postma, and Emmajean, Eddie and Andy Spoelman; one brother, Henry (Nellie) Kroeze of Kalamazoo; one sister, Henrietta (Hank) Sportel of Three Rivers and several nieces and nephews.
