(Obituary. Alfred J. Gritter, age 80, a resident of Florida since 1966, went to be with his Lord on June 15, 2006. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie (Van Harn), his children, Tom and Nancy Gritter, Richard Gritter, Harry and Teri Gritter, and Mary Gritter; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Marvin (Bonnie) Gritter; sister, Winabelle Gritter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joan Gritter, Doris Gritter, Pernella Gritter, Jake and Beverly Broekema, Stephen and Wilma Van Harn, Ken Van Harn, Barbara and Bill Venema, Kay and John Westerhuis, and Joyce and Jerry Brower. (Obituary. Wolters, Ellen M. Spring Lake On Monday, December 6, 2021, Ellen M. Wolters, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord. Born in Grand Rapids, MI on May 18, 1936 to Henry and Christine Gritter, Ellen was a Registered Nurse, with a B.A. degree from Calvin College and nursing degree from Blodgett School of Nursing. Her nursing classmates held a special place in Ellen's heart and she enjoyed monthly lunches with them. Ellen worked in many roles as a registered nurse and used those skills in various volunteer positions. She lived a life of serving others. Be it her family, her church family, the Christian Schools, or the local community, Ellen taught through her actions of giving her time and energy to others. She served in numerous capacities at Second Christian Reformed Church, Grand Haven Christian School, and Western Michigan Christian High School. She enjoyed time with her friends, family and especially her grandchildren. Some of the special memories that Ellen and Burt created were movie nights at grandpa and grandma's and weekends at the Ludington condo. Ellen had a special gift of hospitality and hosted numerous pool parties in the backyard for her children and grandchildren that were always filled with delicious food and warm laughter. She is survived by her children; Sandra (John) Fortmann, Dave (Terri) Wolters, Christy (Mike) Prins, and Carole (Scott) Owens; and her 8 grandchildren: JC Fortmann, Ashley Fortmann, Mason Wolters, Noah Wolters, Andrew Vander Meulen, Ryan Vander Meulen, Alyssa (Mitchell) Galloway, and Brendan Owens. Also surviving are siblings Joyce (Robert) Cronin, Margaret Houskamp, and sister-in-law Joyce Kazie. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Kenneth Houskamp, brother Dale Gritter, and husband of 60 years and love of her life, Burton Wolters. Born in Fremont, MI on April 5, 1934 to Henry and Rena Wolters. Burt was a board certified Radiologist, with a B.A. degree from Calvin College, M.D. degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and served his internship and residency training at Butterworth Hospital. After proudly serving his country as a captain in the U.S. Air Force, he practiced as a diagnostic Radiologist in Western Michigan for Mercy Hospital, North Ottawa Community Hospital, and Gerber Memorial Hospital. His wife, four children, and eight grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. Burt was an avid reader, problem solver, and critical thinker. In his free time he enjoyed traveling, gardening, and woodworking. He was a tinkerer and a do-it-yourselfer. He served on various boards and committees at Second Christian Reformed Church, Grand Haven Christian School, and Christian Schools International. He was born July 27, 1937 in Kalamazoo, MI to Marinus and Louise (Jeltes) Houskamp. Ken lived most of his life in Grand Rapids. Ken had a great sense of humor and especially enjoyed his time with family and friends. On May 4, 1962 he married the former Margaret "Marge" Gritter and she survives him along with two sons and their wives, Michael and Lori Houskamp of Spring Lake and Steven and Dawn Houskamp of Holland; four grandchildren: Madison, Christa, Bradley and Jenna Houskamp; one brother, John Houskamp of Grand Rapids; one sister, Virginia (Warren) Haan of Grand Rapids and by his in-laws, Ellen and Burton Wolters of Spring Lake, Joyce and Bob Cronin of Fayetteville, PA and Dale Gritter of Grand Rapids. Ken was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katelyn Joy Houskamp on April 12, 2002 and by his brother, Richard Houskamp. Ken was a U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of Calvin College and he received his MBA from Michigan State University. He and Marge moved from Grand Rapids to Spring Lake in 2008. His career was in sales and marketing with Keebler, Rapistan and Bil-Mar Foods. He retired in 2004 as co-owner of C & M Coatings of Grand Haven. Ken was a member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an Elder. Formerly, he had been a member of Beckwith Hills Christian Reformed Church where he had served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School teacher and Youth Leader. Geboren op 13-03-1924.(Gritter, Gladys I. Gladys Irene Gritter, age 98, of Kentwood went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 4, 2022. Gladys was born on July 23, 1923 in Hawarden, Iowa to Fred and Ida Kooi. After growing up on a farm, she proudly served her country in the Navy Waves during WWII. While in service she met her husband, George, to whom she was married for almost 65 years. Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who cherished being with her family. She participated in a wide range of activities. She loved her church, first Kelloggsville CRC, later Ideal Park CRC, and was a ladies Bible study leader and Sunday school teacher. She wrote a great number of poems, many of which were published. Painting was another hobby, along with numerous crafts. Mom loved acting and was a member of many groups that performed comedy skits throughout Grand Rapids. At the Holland Home she launched a yearly talent show put on by the residents. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting the birthplaces of many of our presidents and spending many winters in Florida. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2011, and her son, Ken in 2021. She is survived by her children: Bob and Ruth Gritter, Cindy and Vincent Gargagliano, Judy and Jim Kleinwolterink, and daughter-in-law, Mari Gritter; 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; siblings: Clarence (Marie) Kooi, Stanley Kooi, Glenn (Patricia) Kooi, Irene Kooi Chadwick, and Mildred Kooi; brothers-in-law: John Peterson and Bill Gritter; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Waanders and Carole (Geof) Gaiser. (Obituary. Dr. Kenneth Gritter, 72, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 4, 2021. He was born in Grand Rapids to George and Gladys (Kooi) Gritter in 1949. Ken lived out his faith in all aspects of his life and was an elder and active member of LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church. In addition to his family, whom he dearly loved, Ken also enjoyed golf and travel. Greece was a favorite destination, but he also loved discovering new places. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1979, practiced as a radiologist, and served in both the US Navy and US Air Force. Ken was preceded in death by his father, George, and is survived by his mother, Gladys; his wife of 50 years, Marianne; two sons, Joel (Jenifer) Gritter, Bradley (Ariel) Gritter; five grandchildren, Erica, Anne, Hope, Will, and Clara; three siblings, Bob (Ruth) Gritter, Cindy (Vince) Gargagliano, and Judy (Jim) Kleinwolterink; many nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Jennie Vander Woude. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church. The service will be livestreamed at www.lagrave.org\funerals.
